The Lingoal app support for learning Swedish from Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanina has developed in a project funded by Nordplus, with contributions from project partners Valodu māja – House of Languages in Latvia, Multilingua in Estonia, the language school Šiaurės kryptimi and Vilnius University.

The Lingoal app has been developed by Brainglass Data AB, in collaboration with Språkkraft, a nonprofit organization based in Sweden.

House of Languages have taken part in the preparation of the project and to localize the app for a Latvian audience. We have also presented it for different audiences in Latvia.

HOW TO USE LINGOAL

01 Select level and language

Download the Lingoal application on your mobile phone or tablet device (Available in App Store and Google Play). Then, open it and choose to learn Swedish, then select your language. Choosing Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian gives you free access to Lingoal Premium.

Choose your current language level by selecting the description that best reflects your current skills (Beginner A1, Elementary A2, Intermediate B1, Upper Intermediate B2, Advanced C1 or Proficiency C2). You can also access it and change it later from the Settings screen.

Activate notifications if you want to get reminders from the app.

Register or sign in with your email to back up your learning progress. You can choose to do this later from Settings.

02 Choose What to Read or Watch

Navigate using the category page to find the content you are interested in.

We offer five categories for reading and learning the language based on your level.

If you are a beginner/ intermediate user, start with the (Music), (Podcasts) and (Videos) categories. The (Articles) and (Books) categories are for you upper intermediate and advanced learners.

03 Start learning

Explore the different categories and open any media item you find interesting. For Articles, you can use the magic button to open it in reading mode, and then press the play button to have the text read to you.

Tap any word to get language support in the language you have chosen, and press the star to save the word to your wordlist.

Click the exercise button to practice relevant vocabulary from the content you have chosen.

Too difficult? Read a simplified version of an article by clicking the button and the app will use AI to re-write it in simple language.

04 Reading Support

In all text and captions, you will find that words are marked up in three signal colors:

GREEN – you should already know these, if not change to yellow.

YELLOW – you should learn them now.

RED – you can learn these words later.

Once you know a word, tap on it and change its color status from Red or Yellow to Green. This will reflect on your individual learning profile as you progress (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2)

05 Learn through different exercises

By clicking on the exercise button, you can start three different types of exercises for the yellow words:

    Flashcards

    Multiple Choice

    Fill in the blank

– You can also choose to start flashcard- or multiple choice exercises from the Word List which you find in the main menu.

06 Personal Learning Profile

Go to the profile section to see your individual visual vocabulary mapped to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Click on any level to see the complete vocabulary for that level. Adjust the color to yellow for individual words in order to add them for learning, and set words that you know to green.

Make sure to go to Settings to register a user account for back-up and to be able to work on multiple devices and other apps.

We urge you to write to our support about any technical issues, your experience using the app, suggestions and your feedback. This will help us improve the Lingoal app.
