What is the course about?

This 3-week program is designed for motivated learners who want to get a flying start to Latvian in a supportive and inspiring environment. Together with our experienced teacher Alise Birnbauma, participants have a chance to start speaking Latvian from the very first day through communication-based lessons, interactive tasks, and real-life situations. The course focuses on building speaking confidence, getting a grip on the logic behind Latvian language structure, and expanding practical phrases through everyday use.

What makes this course special?

The program takes place at House of Languages in a small group of 5–12 participants, ensuring personal attention and meaningful interaction. The main language of instruction is English. Over three weeks, participants have a chance to complete 48 academic hours combining Latvian language classes with over 40 academic hours of cultural activities such as lectures, workshops, museum visits, and city exploration in Riga. The course develops reading, listening, and speaking skills while helping students gain confidence in everyday communication. Classes take place in a one-of-a-kind venue that at the time is a cosy bookstore, a mini language museum, and a culture hub.

Participants emphasise the supportive environment, practice-oriented teaching, and opportunities to experience Latvian culture beyond the classroom. As one participant noted: “It’s a very supportive environment – whenever you get lost, there’s always a teacher or someone else ready to guide you.”
