Latvian Language Courses at House of Languages (A1 and A2)
Would you like to learn Latvian, but feel discouraged by courses that focus only on dry grammar rules? Are you looking for Latvian language courses in Riga that will help you finally start speaking and feel more confident living in Latvia?
We offer modern Latvian language courses designed to improve your everyday communication and speaking skills. Our language school in Riga uses a multisensory teaching method that combines movement, all the senses, dialogue, listening, and real-life situations. This approach helps activate the language naturally and enables you to start speaking more quickly. Whether you are just beginning or already have some previous knowledge, you can choose between our A1 and A2 courses, described below. You can enrol in both courses or choose just one.
Latvian Language Course for Beginners (A1)
This course is designed for curious learners who want to begin learning Latvian in a supportive and inspiring environment. Throughout the course, you will learn to take part in simple conversations and handle everyday situations in Latvian. You will also acquire the most commonly used phrases, essential grammatical structures, and a solid foundation for further language development.
Course starts: 20 July
11 classes: 3 times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings 9:00–11:30 o’clock)
Duration: 3 weeks
Length of each class: 3 academic hours (135 minutes + break)
Previous knowledge: None required
Format: In person, House of Languages (Avotu iela 33, Riga)

Latvian Language Course (A2)
If you already have the basics of Latvian, it’s time to take the next step! In the A2 course, we will continue expanding your vocabulary, develop your grammar skills, and encourage you to communicate more independently. It doesn’t matter where you learned Latvian before. Even if you completed the A1 level elsewhere or studied independently, you are warmly welcome to join us. If needed, we also offer a consultation to help determine whether this course is the right fit for you.
Course starts: 17 August
Duration: 4 months
32 classes: Twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays, with a choice of morning or evening group)
Length of each class: 2 academic hours (90 minutes)
Previous knowledge: A1 level or equivalent knowledge
Format: In person, House of Languages (Avotu iela 33, Riga)

Price: €600 (Students: €540)
Our courses develop reading, listening, and speaking skills while helping you gain confidence in everyday communication. Classes are led by our experienced teacher, Alise Birnbauma. In her lessons, making mistakes is completely normal, and questions are always welcome. Classes take place in a unique environment that is at once a cosy bookshop, a small language museum, and a cultural centre. We want you to communicate freely and confidently, which is why classes are held in small groups of 5–12 participants, ensuring an individual approach and meaningful interaction. The main language of instruction is English.
